等候长久的假日终于到来了，水泥卡车司机Danny(Ifans)盼望去到南部，而女朋友Trudy(Clarke)却千方百计阻止他度假。他坐在一架花园椅子乘着氢气球逃脱了监狱般的生活。强劲的雷雨把他吹离了地图的指引，带到了一个叫Clarence的苍绿城镇，那里是镇中唯一停车的警官Glenda(Otto)的管辖地。丹尼在Clarence隐姓埋名重新他的生活，在过程中发现Glenda才是他真正的精神伴侣。命运最后还是作弄了他。丹尼的身份被女朋友Trudy发现，Trudy已成为了“60分钟”节目的名人并来到Clarence要求Danny一起回到悉尼。然而此刻，Danny已被改变，他已找到了自我和生活的真谛，俨然与Trudy告别，并决心再入Clarence，挽回Glenda，去迎接新的生活。
