吴哥窟又称吴哥寺，位在柬埔寨西北方。原始的名字是Vrah Vishnulok，意思为“毗湿奴的神殿”。中国古籍称为“桑香佛舍”。它是吴哥古迹中保存得最完好的的庙宇，以建筑宏伟与浮雕细致闻名于世，也是世界上最大的庙宇。

　　吴哥窟是高棉古典建筑艺术的高峰，它结合了高棉寺庙建筑学的两个基本的布局：祭坛和回廊。祭坛由三层长方形有回廊环绕须弥台组成，一层比一层高，象征印度神话中位于世界中心的须弥山。在祭坛顶部矗立着按五点梅花式排列的五座宝塔，象征须弥山的五座山峰。寺庙外围环绕一道护城河，象征环绕须弥山的咸海。

　　在影视作品中，吴哥窟大多是以教科书的形式呈现的，世界著名的国家地理和探索频道相继制作了介绍吴哥窟的长篇电视片。在柬埔寨国内，吴哥窟曾出现在许多国产电影中。但是由于柬埔寨自身电影工业较为落后，所以这些影片并没能成为经典。电影《神鬼传奇》的主线情节是围绕“木乃伊”展开的，并不能与吴哥窟进行关联，这也的确是一种遗憾。
