　　15岁的赛门住在澳大利亚中部沙漠里的一个独立的小村子中，在这个叫做Warlpiri的小地方，赛门过着日复一日的重复生活，丝毫没有什么新鲜的东西。影片就从赛门这如出一辙的生活开始。

　　早上，他被自己哥哥组织的乐队的排练声吵醒，空气里弥漫着尘土和汽油的味道。起来之后的赛门无事可做——在这里他没有朋友、没有工作、没有学校、也没有游乐场。每天，赛门的任务就是跟在黛利拉的后面，去和她一起照顾黛利拉的祖母。闲极无聊的时候，他会向黛利拉丢丢石子，或者是是用记号笔在墙上写 “S4D”。日子就这么一天一天地过去，在一切看起来都毫无悬念的时候，村子中的村民闹起了矛盾。

　　由于族人之间的矛盾，赛门和黛利拉决定离家出走。出走之后的他们先偷了辆车，汽油用尽之后，他们便开始步行——毫无目的、毫无理由地四处游荡。在出走的过程中，他们渐渐长大，开始慢慢学习照顾对方。这两个十几岁的孩子之间也在渐渐起着爱情的化学反应。虽然生活依旧贫困、依旧饥饿、甚至是充满了暴力，但是他们还是像野草一样健康、疯狂的成长。
