◎简　　介

　　公元1788年，精明强干的乔治三世领导的大英帝国在欧洲大地上逐渐强大起来。由于乔治王的英明领导，人民生活富足、国泰民安，为此，乔治王也深受大英子民的爱戴。一天，乔治王突然闹起肚子，皇宫里的御医也没有查出是什么病因。从此，乔治王精神失常，以前精明的君王变得在皇室大臣和侍卫面前常常口出秽语、行事疯狂而不能自制。

　　乔治王的失常引起了皇室人员和国会的不安，威尔斯王子趁机派人在议院发起了一个由他摄政的提案，想赶走父亲而自己掌权。为了避免皇室权利斗争给国家带来的动荡，彼特首相一面忙着掩饰真相、按抚国会，一面在王后的授意下请威利斯医生给乔治王暗中治病，并以此拖延时间、稳定局面。就在彼特在国会上即将抵挡不住支持威尔斯王子即位的压力时，乔治王在威利斯的精心治疗下彻底地康复，并回到了依然拥护他的臣民之中。
