　　莎拉（丽兹-卡潘 饰演）是一个书店的经理和颇有抱负的艺术家，她不相信婚姻，对搬去和男友凯文（杰弗瑞-阿伦德 饰演）一起居住感到十分紧张。凯文和莎拉的妹妹贝丝的（爱丽森-布里 饰演）未婚夫安德鲁（马丁-斯塔尔 饰演）组成了一个二人乐队，凯文是吉他手，安德鲁是主唱。这些有着亲密关系的人似乎并不了解彼此：安德鲁和贝丝为如果他们在酒吧相遇是否会看上对方而争论不休；莎拉万万想不到平时看起来吊儿郎当的男友会在演唱会中当着两百多个陌生人向她求婚，而莎拉一语不发且倍感羞辱的夺路而逃，也远在凯文的预料之外。第二天，莎拉就从男友的家中搬了出来，在情感上陷入迷茫的她很快与书店的一名顾客乔纳森（马克-韦伯 饰演）互生爱意。与此同时，贝丝对即将到来的婚礼非常投入，她希望各方面都能尽善尽美，可安德鲁却不怎么上心。事情出乎意料的发展，让莎拉开始重新审视自己生命中的男人和与贝丝的关系……
