◎简　　介

　　苏菲（桑德里娜·伯奈尔 Sandrine Bonnaire饰）在中产阶级乐里芙家做女佣，她千方百计隐藏着自己不识字的秘密。性格内向的苏菲内心非常敏感，事事留神不犯差错，并得到了主人家的认同。乐里芙一家对苏菲彬彬有礼，同时也昭示出主仆间的不同等级。
　　
　　在镇上的邮局，苏菲认识了同属穷人阶级的珍（伊莎贝尔·于佩尔 Isabelle Huppert饰）。珍对有钱人充满了扭曲的愤恨心理，成为苏菲的好友后，她从没有停止过煽动苏菲，让她与富人阶级决裂。矛盾一步步走向无可调和的地步，苏菲的秘密在乐里芙家曝了光，和谐的外壳瞬间倒坍，珍和苏菲的反抗如同狂风骤雨……
