　　瑞克（威尔·霍纳夫 Wil Horneff 饰）的母亲玛格丽特（海伦·谢费 Helen Shaver 饰）是一位研究灵长类动物的专家，在她的实验室里，养着她的研究对象——猩猩凯蒂。一次偶然中，瑞克在母亲的实验室里发现了凯蒂，两个纯洁善良的生命以平等的姿态开始了最初的交流。

　　靠着手语，瑞克和凯蒂很快就成为了朋友。凯蒂的主人在马戏团工作，因为手下负责表演的猩猩死了，于是他决定将凯蒂带回去填补空位。得知了这一噩耗，瑞克伤心欲绝，左思右想之后，他竟然驾驶着私家车，带上凯蒂“私奔”了。身前是无法预测的未来，身后是步步紧逼的“追兵”，瑞克和凯蒂最后会面临怎样的结局呢？
